Frederick Maggio : Ballade Pour Elena
Les Productions D’Oz: 3 pages
This piece has more than a hint of the folk – pop fingerstyle sound in it, and is a warm and friendly tribute to the composer’s daughter Elena. The video played by Frederick’s father Guy – Jean is a great rendition, and should be seen by anyone interested in the sheet music of this piece.
It is relatively short and uncomplicated and set in C Major in 4/4.The melody is pleasant and tops some slightly syncopated rhythms that just give the piece its originality in places where lesser composers would be happy to write the easiest patterns.
The difficulty factor is not more than intermediate and it passes a pleasant 2 or 3 minutes and although it is built around a basic pattern, it is still quite an unusual one and not one you will have played before much, if at all, and so this is a piece that you may well want to consider having a closer look at!
