JONATHAN JACKSON : Sandplay : Bergmann Edition

Jonathan Jackson
Bergmann Edition : 32 pages
Here is another large volume of pieces from Jonathan (see the previous review of Lemon Frog) .It consists of 20 complex pieces, definitely more advanced than the other volume I’ve just mentioned. They also feel often more like a set of studies in the way that various techniques are used .So the first piece is in 5/4 with the middle of the 3 voices full of hammer – ons in semi – quavers whilst the top and bottom voices are longer throughout. Piece No2 is in, believe it or not a mixture of 24/8 21/8 and occasionally 9/8! The other pieces are very varied, with a multitude of styles, keys and music, but with all of them quite advanced, and as with Lemon Frog, a number in flat keys and various key signatures, and written in styles that will catch the player out when trying to sight read them!
Having said that, they are extremely interestingly written, and don’t sound like anything else you may have played before and so I do find them very useful and definitely pieces that you will enjoy trying to get your fingers around.
