A collection of 27 beautiful solos
Faber Music: 80 pages
This collection is nothing if not varied! The 27 pieces include, pieces by Albeniz, Malcolm Arnold, and Bach, but also Django Reinhardt, Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran, Cole Porter, and Eva Cassidy , to name but a few.
The entire collection is in Staff and tab notation, and opens up with Angi, that famous piece by Davy Graham, and continues with a very clever Arrangement of Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers, which uses some clever places to put harmonic chords to help the piece out considerably. Incidentally many of these pieces have no arranger’s name, which is a shame because they are good enough to get a credit for their work. After the usual Asturias (Leyenda) by Isaac Albeniz we get, to name just a few of the 27 pieces, one of the main songs from La La Land, City of Stars which is quite a bit simpler than some of the other pieces, a nice version of Cole Porter’s Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye, a nice version of Killing Me Softly, an easy-ish arrangement of Amy Winehouse’s Love is a Losing Game , and even a piece of David Bowie, The Man Who Sold the World.
There is something for everyone here, whether it be Classical, Jazz, Pop, Folk, or Blues or indeed a number of other styles too, and whilst they are not always entirely suited to the classical player, they are still utterly playable in that format, should the potential purchaser of this book, like what he sees in the titles, and therefore I can recommend this well designed book, as a lot of fun that players will definitely want to dip in and out of.
