Juanjo Dominguez was an Argentinean guitarist, known for his amazing playing of Latin /American music including Tangos and the suchlike. Immediately you start listening to this album the amazing sound of his playing hits you. There can’t have been many better players of this style of music. His opening track of Carlos Gardel’s Viejos Tiempos is truly outstanding in every way. He then continues with the legendary Agustin Barrios’ Maxixe, the runs being so fast and phenomenal in their apparent effortlessness that it really will catch you by surprise.

After a lovely traditional melody Ramona, Dominguez comes into his own as a composer and his first piece Mi Amigo Carlos, is fast , wonderfully melodic and constantly on the move, again with some fabulous playing. I must be honest and say that nearly all the composers here are utterly new to me but it absolutely makes no difference because everything on this album is exceptional, and if the music wasn’t so tremendously difficult to play, I would want to acquire any music that I was able to, because there are no fillers here whatsoever. Until I heard the final track I wondered how Chopin would fit into an album full of this music, but it turns out to be various Chopin themes put together into a kind of fantasy but arranged ( I imagine) by Dominguez so that everything sounds very active, and almost Latin in its styling. Again, this is a wonderful bit of almost unbelievably fast playing that sounds so difficult, and yet he makes effortless.

This is an album without faults, recorded beautifully clearly, and played like no one I have ever heard before. Wow!
