Michel Cardin (arrangements and variations)

Bergmann Edition: 12 pages

Having just reviewed one of this man’s books for Baroque Lute, and saying that this was a rarity for me on my site, here is another, perhaps even rarer! It is a book of two pieces arranged for a Theorbo in A, and again is in tablature entirely.

The first piece was written by James Oswald in the 18th Century and is a tune many of you will definitely know, Barbara Allan, and being the instrument that it is, you will no doubt be aware that this is a far from easy instrument to get your hands around. The tablature is still very readable but the piece seems quite difficult regardless of the instrument you are playing it on.

The other piece is a Scottish Folk Song, John Come Kiss Me Now, one I personally haven’t heard before. This is written for a Theorbo with a 7th course at F#, and like the other piece it seems quite a difficult piece, but then again , if you have a Theorbo and can play it, then maybe it’s not as bad as it appears!

So if you do want something newly arranged for your Theorbo, then this man’s pieces will suit you admirably!
