JONATHAN JACKSON  : Lemon Frog- 30 pieces for guitar : Bergmann Edition

Jonathan Jackson

Bergmann Edition : 34 pages

Here are 30 very varied pieces, quite short, often one page but occasionally two using a large portion, but not all of the 24 keys. So that you do spend a fair amount of time playing in keys that you may not be normally used to playing in on the guitar. Not only that, the style of each piece is quite different from the others, so that they are extremely useful as teaching pieces for any of your pupils who are relatively advanced.

So for example the opening piece is in 4/4 in C Major, but full of  quite complex rhythms in the top part, whilst the bass line is usually (but not always ) in crotchets , and keeping the steady beat going.

Then we have a 4/4 E major piece, again in 2 voices but quite different stylistically,  a 2/2 D Major work full of alternately climbing and falling arpeggios, a 2/2 D Minor piece noticeably easier than the previous , and then a 3 / 4 E Flat piece. After that there are far too many pieces to list them individually, but let’s say that 7 more are in flat keys, and there are a number of different time signatures and musical styles to task the players.

The music is friendly, and certainly not obvious, so that you don’t usually know what is coming, and so this is a very useful book full of lovely pieces that lots of you will enjoy playing.
