From the very first Hyperion album of 1984, Virtuoso Music for Guitar, the Hill – Wiltschinsky duo produced wonderful groundbreaking albums of fabulous arrangements played in a manner rarely heard before on two guitars. Over the forthcoming years they released a lot of albums of all manner of pieces, sometimes border- crossing musically into the songs of Lennon – and McCartney and other modern writers, to other completely stunning pieces most of us had never heard. Live, they had to be seen to be believed because they were every bit as tremendous in their performances live as they were on the albums. Unfortunately several years later they decided to call it a day, and they went their separate ways , so all we had were the memories and the albums they had produced.

Now however, Warner Music has decided to issue a download only large collection of some of their best performances, and I can firmly say that it really is as good as I have been saying. There is nothing here that is ‘ordinary’ or simply ‘OK’, as everything is a phenomenal performance, with all the arranged pieces usually, but not always, being their own work. Yes, it is only a very small slither of what they actually recorded, and one can only hope that Warner Music, or indeed, anyone else, might consider, reissuing all their old albums and even perhaps make this digital download only collection an actual set of CDs? Sounds like a great idea to me! Wonderful, don’t miss the chance to hear this !¬
