This recording is available from all the usual digital companies, Spotify, Amazon, YouTube Music and others. Looking at the titles, you can see that they are mostly Latin American pieces, many of which the majority of you might very well know.
The two pieces by Dilermando Reis that open the recording might perhaps not be known to all of you, but they ought to be, as the music written by this composer, is simply wonderful stuff .Moreover the recording quality is excellent and as for the playing, well, you are not liable to find much better anywhere else.
Then you get Santorsola’s opening movement from his Suite A Antiga , another wonderful piece of writing and playing where you really can quickly get the idea that this player is well up to everything that is put in front of him.
Manuel De Falla’s only work for solo guitar Homenaje A Debussy is a legendary piece that really does deserve all the accolades it gets. What a pity that the man never wrote anything else for our beautiful instrument .Another effortless performance!
Then of course we come to one of the most famous Latin composers Agustin Barrios Mangore, whose music is very special to me, as (some of you may not know) I was , back in 1980 -82 transcribing all his recordings to manuscript, and as it turned out , I was the first one to do them all! Julia Florida is a lovely piece of music that our guitarist makes a fine job of, as he does with the Mazurka Appassionata .(Neither of these two pieces, by the way, are known to have been recorded by Barrios.)
Finally we get two of the many works by Leo Brouwer , one of our very greatest living composers. He always manages to surprise me with just how varied his compositions are, stylistically. These two are quite different from each other, and just like everything else on this album, he makes a fine job of the performance of these two great pieces.
So in essence there is nothing negative I can say about this album. It is beautifully recorded, very clearly, and wonderfully played, and so I can only say that if the repertoire appeals, this might be a great one for you to get.
