Francis Bebey
Les Productions D’Oz: 3 pages
This short but melodic piece of writing is by a man who I first discovered through the playing and recordings of John Williams, quite a considerable time ago. The two pages about his life and his guitar work makes for fascinating reading.
This little piece is in D Major with a dropped D 6th and has a melody that returns a few times in the piece in slightly different guises as it progresses .It is generally in three voices, with the melody, the middle voice that is the accompaniment, (sometimes chords and other times arpeggio in style) with a gentle bass line below.
It is not too difficult, except for two quite tricky stretches, the first having a bass on fret 5 of the sixth string, a low G, with the top string on a D and a C# with your 4th finger, and the second one having a low E, on fret 2 of the 6th, whilst the top string is on a 7th fret B, not too bad but still awkward given the constant flow of the music.
Yes, this is a nice piece of writing that many will enjoy
