Les Productions D’Oz: 4 pages

This short piece is all about memories and the nostalgia some create and in this piece our composer has made all the music sad, emotive and very pleasant to play.

It’s set in D Major with a dropped 6th to D and is a Lento 4/4.It is all in 2 voices but the main thing about the piece are the rhythms he uses, often setting one against the other . The opening melody starts almost immediately without an introduction over a rocking bass line and then is varied with more harmonies the second time its used. Then comes, what for some might be the trickiest part, a bass- line version of the melody over which you have more than 8 bars of continuous harmonics, which have to be played artificially. A middle section follows which consists of usually triplet quavers above straight quavers underneath .After the first time this happens, the music momentarily quietens down before now becoming continuous triplet quavers often swapping between the bass – and the treble parts. This gradually climbs in emotion, until the top part becomes octaves climbing right up to the A on fret 17 and the lower A on string 3 fret 14, again atop triplet quaver accompaniment. It carries on for a further few bars until things start to die down and the music gets less complex at the coda, where a final few bars of pizzicato harmonics and natural notes lead to the final chord of D Major.

It was a pleasant piece full of unusual moments but all very tonal throughout, but you do have to be a good player for a few parts of this piece. Otherwise it makes a nice piece to play, and to listen to.
